Bringing the crazytrain into the station. )

Man, I need to figure out how to actually write it so that people can actually bang. This was supposed to be porn. It really really was.

WHATEVER. My neck hurts and currently, I am grumpy. Possibly because midway through writing this, I started reading The Men Who Make Battlestar Galatica Feminist and to my rage, it was not Ron Moore saying sorry for being a freak; rather, it was a weird apologia for the show based on the fact that dudes and ladies suffer equally on the show, and in some weird calculus, this makes the show feminist. I am pretty sure we are not using the same meanings for the same terms here! WHATEVER. You can tell when I got impatient with this story, right?

10:20 am "Offices will not open today."

FUCK YEAH.

It's pretty windy out, so I can't say I mind. I'll be staying in and writing. [info]faded_lilac is going to hunt me down and kill me, despite the snow, but here, a document with the working, but not true, title "roman britain with BAAAABIES." Featuring Edgar and Imogen being adorable children, and Paulina being emo, but not as emo as she is in canon. What timeline? What events, period? I don't know, I am posting anyway.

Cymbeline/King Lear/A Winter's Tale crossover, Gloucester/ladies he does not respect, Paulina/Kent/Claudio. This is the least subtle story ever. Also, like all other stories in the Hamlet of DOOOM, it probably inadvertently glorifies mental illness.

Maybe I will next post the Henry IV genderswap where Harriet Spar and Hal Lancaster work at a law firm together and it is basically an excuse for slut-ridden porn? Maybe I will do that. Or finish this beyond just like random threeway porn? PERHAPS.

I promised [info]faded_lilac that I would post a Bloomsbury Group fic-bit that I wrote in class yesterday. Well, I promised her that when "yesterday" was still today, before I got distracted by writing 1400 words of commentfic for her, about how Maurice is astoundingly unaware, and Alec Scudder is fundamentally, the best person ever, even if he can't spell.

Bloomsbury Group! Screamingly hilarious at the best of times; rather mean to Leonard Woolf the rest of the time. In my Philosophy course, we're doing classical aesthetics right now, and read Clive Bell for yesterday. Now, okay, based on a few days of preparation, and an hour and a half of discussion, no one is going to come up with thrilling objections to serious foundational works, admittedly one to which marginal notes like "suck it" and "you were mean to Leonard Woolf! screw you" are appended, yet they try anyway. Perhaps one day, I will feel mean-spirited enough to talk about that. The point of this was to say; I can pretty much be excused for not paying terrific attention. Hence!

The Accidental Artist! A Thrilling Mystery! )

It's pretty profound. But not nearly as cool at this! I know that not everyone is completely lackluster in their studies, and so in class, they do things like pay attention, and follow what the professor is actually talking about. I was peering through the back matter in one of the new Penguin editions, and behold!

"Before 1946... 'Classics' are mainly the domain of academics and students, without readable editions for everyone else. This all changes when a little-known classicist, E.V. Rieu, presents Penguin founder Allen Lane with the translation of Homer's Odyssey that he has been working on and reading to his wife Nelly in his spare time"

And blah blah blah, Penguin editions are great, this continues for a long time, people who read this are probably better served by putting down the actual book if they're not going to read, we're looking at you.

STILL! That is completely adorable. Completely. Like, okay, there is the upsetting fact that this was all done so distract the children from the fact that bombs were falling on London, and every aspect of daily life was frankly, pretty terrible, but ohmygosh, Emile and Nelly! Adorable.

western islands have I been )

I suffered through a most agonizing conversation with my lab partner today. This young woman has previously discussed why politics are boring (the politicians aren't compelling people) why exams are hard (you have to read things on them!) and why she's so lucky to have ten siblings (in-fucking-deed.) I don't know how this happened, but for a whole hour I was trapped, listening to her on several topics; I had a appointment for some voluntary tooth-pulling that I missed, damn. I got to hear all about how it's important to only support the romances that the authors intend, and how Nostradamus is totally right. Also in this very special conversation was the idea that I should get married while still in college presented, nay, encouraged.

Let's talk more about how I really don't like a number of things!

One of my classes this term is devilishly difficult, and involves tremendous thought application. Luckily, it's taught by a charming professor, and has the complete cast of fluff-heads I have come to know so well in my time here. (Yes, those transfer applications are coming along lovely, thank you.) Which means I get a full complement of evil glares every-single-damn-time I open my mouth. Because, good Heavens, actually engaging in the class might mean that the material is vaguely useful!

I grr. Luckily, the demographic situation is much the same in my other class, but since we're covering an area I know very well indeed, I am snickering away, and composing suitably sarcastic and nasty replies to any future discussion. Not that I would say them, but I will be thinking them. REALLY LOUDLY.

Now is obviously the time to discuss my problems, but I'll offer up some Cute Canadian RPF as a reward for getting through the first paragraphs of this entry. As part of my fiendish plan to get everyone else to ship Ellen Page and Sidney Crosby. Even though I am making it all up, aren't they adorable?

Saturday Afternoon Free Skate )

pps alternatively, make these free, and delivered to me. I am thinking about getting the Eastern Conference set, so when I am stuck by insomnia, I can look at my fave team logos. So, I think we've previously established that Gabe Saporta is awesome. (For those of you who haven't been listening, or need a recap: Gabe = Awesome.)

This only reaffirms my view. I love being right, yes.

What would you like to do with a guy that you never have?
Um, go on a romantic hot air balloon ride?

YES. I would like to do that with a guy too, but hopefully Gabe and I can find different guys, because I'm pretty sure that hot air balloons are pretty small, and Gabe could probably take me. ([info]polaris_starz, I am waiting for you to make the Shakespeare reference. For everyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, Shakespeare Balloon Polls! In conclusion, [info]roz_mcclure is terribly clever.)

But, wait, it gets better!

That sounds like a challenge. Do you want to throw down?
Yeah -- let's see how many more boys we can kiss at the same time. For me, I was just thinking about that, actually. Our record just came out, and I wanted to feel what everyone was thinking about it, so I spent like two hours last night just reading comments and looking at blogs. I saw all these video collages that kids made of those pictures! And they'd make up love stories. And I was like, Wow, this is awesome. I was thinking about how when I was younger -- I totally remember this -- I was maybe 11, and Nirvana played on Saturday Night Live, and Kurt Cobain kissed Krist Novoselic on the lips. On national TV! And I was like, That's fucking awesome! I remember thinking how revolutionary that was, what a statement that was, and especially at that time. I think it's awesome to encourage people not to be homophobic. That's my motivation, to really make it seem like it's not a big deal.

YAY! I love this subversion of heteronormativity in popular music. Well, okay, I love it period, but especially when it is exciting fun times. LIKE THIS. In fandom, we've gone over this, um, frequently, but the idea that it's not actually the end of the world to say that there's something out there beyond a 1950s style heterosexuality, and that not only might you feel like that, but that other, highly visible, people do. That's still a cool message.

That was my sincerity for the day. I'd like to point something out, though. Doesn't the above read like it could have been spoken by Gerard Way? Yeah, it does. I can see you nodding your heads. There's the "seriously, guys" tone, and the little detour into encouragement and helping out the young people in their creative endeavors, the personal anecdotes, and finally the slightly creepy. Or, wait, no, the best part is how it's okay! Really!

I am currently listening to "The World Has Its Shine (And I Would Drop It On A Dime)" and "The Sharpest Lives," and I've decided that Gabe and Gerard hang out together sometimes. ([info]notthegnomes and [info]molotov_bitch are so sorry they ever chatficced with me, right now.)

Hence.

More Than You Could Ever Know )
Okay, so there's some meta on this topic, and who means what they say, and well, hell, my hands are tired, but I feel like I should continue talking about words. And by "I," I actually mean "Christopher Gutierrez" and no, "words" do not just mean "Pete Wentz." Words, anyway. AND I (ACTUALLY ME) LAUGH AND LAUGH.

Ooh, and now that I've chattered about it. Viva La Cobra! While I am being a wretch, I might as well do it all the way.

Promise
RPF: The Academy Is... by [info]lovelypoet
So, in that AP article, you say, several things seemed very...rotten in the state of TAI. And you would be right, and those things are beautifully articulated here. Something I failed to articulate in my original thoughts about this; the morning after is going to the rift, and the salvation for all of this, and how those two plot threads parallel each other. The morning after for the band, where they realize that, hello, you've smashed your band into lots of tiny pieces. Equally, the morning after for Siska and Butcher, because this is a 'moment they fell in love' fic, where they actually make out. I am filled with rare pair yearning, okay? And finally, there really isn't enough TAI fic. I surmise that's because it's really difficult to write about a band that basically splits itself in two (like an amoeba!) and seems so toxic (like a very toxic bacterium!) I promise I'll stop with the bad organic similes soon, really.

As for that last point (well, not the similes) I decided to brush off a little fic. It borders on the absurd, how much writing I have done lately. It's for [info]lovelypoet despite how creepy that may seem, because the story recced above finally got me to finish this.

Fragmentary. TAI acts like an unhappy family. )
